Called to Many Things? This Is for You.

Updated: Mar 12

Welcome to this month's edition of Exemplify with Elizabeth Zion!

I'm so glad you're here.

This month's piece is about being multi-faceted or as some people like to call it multi-passionate.

Whether you’re multi-passionate or still discovering what you’re called to do, I hope this encourages you to embrace the fullness of who you are called to be.

I only recently discovered this term, but it has really helped me make sense of all the different passions and desires I have. I find that I feel called to so many things, but often struggle with feeling like a jack of all trades and master of none.

I’m ever flowing with business ideas, potential, and purpose. I want to do everything.

I want to speak and change lives.

I want to travel the world.

I want to sing.

I want to act.

I want to model.

I want to roller-skate.

I want to be a diplomat and represent my country on expert topics.

I want to write transformative literature.

I want to inspire young people and show them what they can be.

I want to be a lecturer, a wife, and a mom.

But importantly, I want to glorify God while doing it because I feel so deeply that He has given me these special talents, interests, and desires, and wrapped them into my person. These passions make me who I am.

I am Elizabeth Zion and I don’t fit into a box.

Writing bios is difficult for me because I find it hard to describe who I am and what exactly I’m most passionate about. Many times, I’ve found myself wishing I could just be one thing or fit neatly into a ready made path like nurse or engineer or lawyer. I wished for a shortcut into belonging.

While university is often meant to help you narrow your focus, I ended up graduating with breadth and a vision for a multi-disciplinary career.

I studied four different subjects:

Politics, International Relations, Social Justice, and French.

Now I’m studying Sustainable Development, which brings together subjects like social sciences, technology, business, economics, and environmental studies.

I’ve been prepared for complex problems, global conversations, and deep work that can’t be done by people trained in just one way.

The future belongs to people who can think across systems, cultures, and disciplines.

It belongs to…

…the once homeless teenager who grew up in a single parent household and developed a passion for acting because of Disney Channel.

…the girl who cares deeply about the plight of the poor and oppressed because of what she witnessed on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.

…the young woman who feels called to lead people in worship and sings in church on Sundays.

…the writer who started putting pen to paper to cope with being the only Black girl in her class.

…the girl who believed she could represent her country on a global stage because her teachers believed in the power of her voice.

…the woman who knows that who she is today would have been the role model she needed growing up and who now wants to be that for other young people.

…the teacher at heart who wants to educate and equip others with what she wishes she had learned.

…the follower of Christ who gave her life to Him at 14 and wants to honour Him through marriage and raising her children with holy reverence.

It’s for me, Elizabeth Zion.

And I hope it’s for you too.

For the longest time, I believed I needed to work for a big international NGO like the UN to have an impact. I thought I needed a defined job title to know the limits of what I could offer. But at this stage in my life, I believe God is showing me that I may have more impact simply by sharing my story with those around me.

Becoming a speaker wasn’t my childhood dream. But opportunities kept coming. I kept praying for God’s guidance. And I kept receiving feedback that affirmed the gift.

Now, I know this is something I’ve been given by God, not for my glory but for His.

It’s not about me fitting neatly into a speaker box. It’s about using the voice God gave me to fulfill my God given purpose.

A Question for You:

What part of your story have you been downplaying because it doesn’t fit into a “title”?

What would it look like to honour all of who God made you to be?

A Scripture I’m Holding Onto:

“Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

Proverbs 16:3

You don’t need to shrink to fit a box.

You don’t need to choose one path when you were called to more.

Your life is allowed to be layered. Your purpose is allowed to evolve.

And if you don’t fit in, maybe it’s because you were meant to lead the way.

It might sound cringy but it's true.

If this resonated with you, I’d love to hear your story too.

Feel free to leave a comment, share this with a friend, or message me directly.

I truly believe we’re better when we’re vulnerable together.

Thanks for reading, see you next time!

With love,

Elizabeth Zion
