You're Not Too Young

Dear friend,
There’s a voice I've heard for as long as I can remember.
It says things like: “You’re too young. Too soft. Too late. Too much.”
It’s the same voice that told David to go back to the sheep.
Told Jeremiah not to speak.
Told Timothy to wait until he was older.
And it’s the same voice that told me to stay small.
I believed it for years, that purpose came with age, that wisdom needed grey hair, and that authority belonged to people who were more “put together.” I thought God used polished people, not broken ones still figuring things out.
I didn’t think someone like me, someone young and still learning, could be used in any real way.
But then God whispered louder:
“I’ve called you anyway.”
That changed how I see everything.
Obedience ≠ Readiness
When I started sharing my story at 15, I didn’t feel qualified.
When I stood on a gave my TED Talk at 18, I still felt young.
I’m the youngest in my class for my master’s degree.
Most of my classmates are barristers, lecturers, and seasoned professionals. There are days I felt the difference. Days I wondered if I belonged in the room.
But I’m learning that obedience isn’t about how long you’ve been around.
It’s about being faithful with what God gave you, now.
God doesn’t wait for us to feel ready. He calls us anyway. He doesn’t need us to be impressive. He wants us to be obedient.
There's a verse I hold onto often:
“Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.” — Jeremiah 1:7
This verse isn’t really about age.
It’s about listening to God when He tells you to go, even if people don’t think you’re ready, even if you don't even think you're ready.
You might have heard that your brain isn’t fully developed until you’re 25.
That’s often used as a reason to wait, to delay responsibility, leadership, or calling.
And yes, there’s wisdom in growing slowly. I believe in learning and maturing. I believe in not rushing seasons God wants you to walk through.
But that science doesn’t cancel Scripture.
God called Jeremiah as a teenager.
He used David before he had facial hair.
He trusted Mary to carry the Messiah while she was still a young girl.
God isn’t looking at your age.
He’s looking at your heart.
So if you’re under 25 and wondering if your voice matters, it does.
If you’re over 25 and still waiting for a sign, maybe this is it.
A New Generation
I believe we’re part of a generation that isn’t afraid to name what was broken, even if it was normal.
We’ve seen what silence cost our parents. We’ve watched how fear, image, and survival shaped decisions that hurt more than helped. And we’ve decided not to repeat it.
We’re choosing a different way. We’re not perfect, but we’re willing. Willing to unlearn, to ask hard questions, and to stand in truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
This newsletter is a space for that kind of courage. For people who are still healing, still learning, still walking with God in the quiet, and doing it with open hands.
Because we’re not too young to:
• Heal from what was passed down.
• Speak truth, even when it's misunderstood.
• Lead with humility and apologize when we're wrong.
• Choose gratitude in a world of excess.
• Break generational strongholds.
• Obey God, even when it costs us relationships.
If this spoke to you:
Reply. Share. Or just sit with it for a moment.
And if you’re doubting your voice today or you’ve been made to feel like your conviction is rebellion, let this remind you:
Obedience to God is never a mistake.
You’re not too young.
You’re just on time.
Until next time,
Elizabeth Zion
